Quantum dots are nanometer-sized, inorganic semiconductor crystals that create light when stimulated with photons or electrons. Using
QDs as
only lumophore in a full-color flat-panel display
can offer the advantage of tuneable emission throughout the visible spectrum just by changing the particle size.
QDs displays due to their narrowband emissions have the better color saturation than LCD and OLED displays. QDs LEDs
offer
the
distinct advantages over contemporary light generating devices such as
lower energy consumption, and therefore reduced operating expenses, and more reliable performance
.
Other important and desirable properties
of QDs displays
are
solution-processable,
chemical flexibility and excellent photostability
.
QD screens are suitable for use in any situation where a plasma, LED or traditional CRT (cathode ray) display is found, but QDs screens can be much thinner than contemporary plasma and LCD screens. Some discussion on current display and LEDs industry in UK and EU will also be delivered.
演讲者简介:
李阳先生博士毕业于英国曼彻斯特大学材料中心,跟随英国皇家化学会院士Prof. Paul O’Brien从事纳米半导体晶体(又称:量子点)和纳米磁性材料的研究,在量子点的合成及具体应用方面有着丰富的研究经验。现工作于英国Nanoco Technologies Ltd,此公司是提供高质量量子点及其应用产品的全球领先者。
李阳先生在博士阶段,就开始介入Nanoco公司的产品开发工作中,是公司的创始员工之一。作为公司高级研究员,目前主要负责研制新一代环境友好性量子点材料,开发其在显示和发光(如LED)领域的商业化产品。现为英国皇家化学会副会员、美国材料学会会员和国际显示成像学协会成员。本科和硕士分别毕业于天津大学化工学院材料学专业。
